Deer Lake Resort is located in one of the last wilderness
areas in the Midwest, Vilas County Wisconsin.
Thousands of lakes and streams make Vilas a
top vacationland! Open year round, we are in the heart of the north woods
and the Lake Superior snow belt. Forty minutes north
of Minocqua or forty five minutes northwest of Eagle River, Deer Lake Resort is
at the Gateway to the UP (Upper Peninsula of Michigan).

Rob and
Terry Hillerich purchased Deer Lake in 1990 as a summer home. With many
requests from friends and relatives to bring up families for vacations, we
started renting the resort in 1992. This tradition of sharing the resort
has continued since then. When you are a guest at the resort, you are
sharing our home (with us not there!). You only need to bring your personal items such as
clothes, toiletries, food, drinks, fishing tackle, and consumables like toilet
paper, paper towels, and body soap. We supply all your bedding, towels,
pillows, blankets, kitchen ware, and fishing boats with electric trolling motors
and batteries.

In addition to the 8 bedrooms, there is a bunk room
with 7 beds. Depending on the makeup of your group, 15 to 30 people
can be very comfortable. The large kitchen is newer and the entire house has
seen significant improvements over the last few years. This is a
housekeeping resort- you leave the house for the next group as clean as you
would like to find it upon your arrival. All cleaning supplies are included.
See the "indoors" tab for more details.
Deer Lake is a 40 acre catch and release lake that is 30 feet
deep and sports excellent walleye, largemouth bass, northern, and pan fishing.
Our sand beach has a gradual drop off and is great for kids. To keep this
a wilderness lake, no gas motors
are allowed. For those with a motor boat,
our property has a dock on 528 acre Birch Lake.
The property is 500 acres of densely wooded rolling wilderness which completely
surrounds Deer Lake. There is no one else on the lake but us. We also own
another 650 acres of land to the south and west of our main piece which is
available. This adds up to 1250 acres and several
miles of hiking/cross country ski trails wind through our woods for your
enjoyment. See the "outdoors" tab for more details.
The closest town is Manitowish Waters (8 miles south) which
has several restaurants and bars, 3 gas stations with fishing bait, and a full
service grocery store with liquor.
